Programmes

In an attempt to address the problems created by poverty, A.R.C has come up with the following set of activities:

Adult Education/Scholarship Award: A.R.C is at the forefront of extending educational opportunities to those adults at the grassroots beyond the age of general public education, who feel a need for further training. It has numerous evening education centres in the rural communities from where it reaches out to its students. ARC awards financial relief to intelligent but indigent students in the secondary and tertiary institutions.

Provision of  aids/nursing care to the sick/elderly: A.R.C provides financial assistance and nursing care to the sick and the elderly who have no body to help them.

Skill Acquisition/Vocational Education: ARC believes that one of the ways to alleviate poverty among the grassroots dwellers is to teach them skills so as to combat the scourge of unemployment in these communities. ARC has some vocational centres where it teaches computer education, welding, machine-repairing, catering, masoning, and tailoring to the inhabitants of these rural communities.

Micro Credit/Enterprise Development: ARC conducts financial literacy education, and extends small loans to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. It has proven an effective and popular measure in the ongoing struggle against poverty, enabling those without access to lending institutions to borrow and start small business so as to take care of themselves and their families.

Health Education: The saying that ‘‘Health is Wealth’’ is held true by ARC. It believes that when someone is healthy, he/she can come up with ideas that can generate good income. ARC collaborates with the local health centres/churches and the media to educate the grassroots on issues such as: sexually transmitted diseases, sickle cell anemia, asthma, tuberculosis, heart diseases, pre/post natal education etc

Human Rights/Legal Advocacy: Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, colour, religion, language, or any other status. They include: men and women, black or white or any other color, are ALL equal, freedom of speech, the right to medical care (but not necessarily free or low-cost),the right to have a safe working environment, freedom of the press, the right to privacy, freedom of religion, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to receive an education, freedom of movement, the right to adequate housing, freedom from cruel and unusual punishment, the right to an attorney, the right to a fair trial by jury, disabled citizens have the right to work, equal pay for men and women, the right to start our own business, the right to have a minimum wage, freedom of association and peaceful assembly.

The existence of human rights in a country helps secure the peace, deter aggression, promote the rule of law, combat crime and corruption, strengthen democracy, and prevent humanitarian crises. ARC carries out some advocacy programmes to enlighten the masses especially young girls and women about their unalienable rights. ARC also lobbies the law makers to make laws which uphold the interest of women.
